Bible Tests: Judgments or Chance For More Time?

What will it take for American Christians to realize, admit and understand that it is time—yea well past time–for those who truly know God through His Son Jesus Christ to cry out to God in earnest prayer and repentance? How many more massive destructive hurricanes, unstoppable killer forest fires, and super-automatic gun mass murders will it take?

All of America from South to West to East has been warned.  Puerto Rico is an example of such destruction from which it may be impossible to recover. Multiple hundreds of fire-eaten homes in ‘wine country’ in California may well leave hundreds found dead. And for as yet unexplainable reasons, a multi-millionaire cruelly injures and kills over 500 people in Las Vegas, the sin-filled gambling capital of the nation.

For those Christians still not yet ready to pray, perhaps a Bible lesson would be helpful.  God’s Word refers to hurricanes as ‘tempests,’ and primarily attests two reasons for such attacks from nature: First, to get wayward or lazy Christians to start praying: “They reel to and fro, and stagger like a drunken man, and are at their wits’ end. Then they cry unto the LORD in their trouble, and he bringeth them out of their distresses. He maketh the storm a calm, so that the waves thereof are still.

“Then are they glad because they be quiet; so he bringeth them unto their desired haven. Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men! Let them exalt him also in the congregation of the people, and praise him in the assembly of the elders (Psalm 107: 27 – 32).”

America is at heart a Christian nation.  But head-counters now claim that many former Christians have turned away God.  But when trouble comes—real near-death trouble—some of these may scream out to God for help, for Him to save them (i.e. again). Hopefully, we will one day hear these stories of those facing sure death during recent hurricanes in our nation.  And, surely, some of those facing rolling gun terror in Texas, or roaring fires fast creeping to their doorsteps in California, likewise turned to their Heavenly Father for help. Once we all rejoice in heaven we look forward to hearing some of those testimonies.

However, overwhelming Biblical evidence about tempests (i.e. hurricanes) indicates that such events are for judgment against those He labels wicked, rich, proud and/or drunkards:  “How oft is the candle of the wicked put out! and how oft cometh their destruction upon them! God distributeth sorrows in his anger. They are as stubble before the wind, and as chaff that the storm carrieth away (Job 21: 17-18);” and “The rich man shall lie down, but he shall not be gathered: he openeth his eyes, and he is not. Terrors take hold on him as waters, a tempest stealeth him away in the night. The east wind carrieth him away, and he departeth: and as a storm hurleth him out of his place (Job 27: 19 – 21).”

Isaiah adds:  “Woe to the crown of pride, to the drunkards of Ephraim, whose glorious beauty is a fading flower, which are on the head of the fat valleys of them that are overcome with wine! Behold, the Lord hath a mighty and strong one, which as a tempest of hail and a destroying storm, as a flood of mighty waters overflowing, shall cast down to the earth with the hand. The crown of pride, the drunkards of Ephraim, shall be trodden under feet (28: 1 – 3).”

God willing, I will write more in the next blog about the California fires in Napa Valley wine country, and about the devilish gun shootings in Nevada.  (And no I didn’t write the paragraph above about wine, The Holy Spirit wrote them in God’s wholesale Christian Bibles).  The point is that these events from hurricanes to shootings to fires are ALL warnings to this “one nation under God” to get on our knees in repentance and cry out for His forgiveness, asking for just one more chance to show Him that we can live according to His rules as set down in His Holy Word and not according to our own wishes and/or beliefs.  Let us not wait until the Midwest is hit with nation-splitting earthquake rupturing  vaults or the rest of California drops into the sea!!!
