Time For More Dedication

Of course, one must admit that those working on the Sea Shepherd do so at great risk to their lives.  They brave constant danger fighting to save whales from slaughter.  Likewise, men and women at war in the U.S. military live in constant danger to protect the nation.  And of course, police and firemen constantly skirt the edge of death as they struggle to keep our towns and cities safe!

But these objectives hardly outweigh the value of one human soul!  Jesus Christ came to earth so that human beings could be loosed from Satan’s grip, allowing them the freedom to embrace God’s salvation.

And He commanded His followers to go out into all the world and do likewise (Matthew 28: 19 – 20).   For several early centuries, Christians obeyed that commandment at great risk to their lives.  But because they obeyed His call to missions, the gospel went into all the known world––and generally under constant stress of horrific persecution.

In the process, some Christians lived in underground caves; others were clawed to death by lions in coliseums; and some were sacrificed simply because they wanted to translate the Bible into English and other languages for common people.  Like believers in the Book of Acts, men and women would pray and pray until the walls raised against the Gospel would fall.  These Christians loved The Lord Jesus enough to obey Him.  And they loved the people who did not know Him enough to suffer rejection, persecution and even death, so that those populations could hear and accept Jesus as Lord and Savior.

It is very easy to see that, if one compared today’s known members of the Body of Christ, we do not fare well aligned beside Sea Shepherd sailors risking life and limb to save whales.  Nor do we earn high marks when compared to military soldiers fighting for our freedoms, to police and firemen struggling to protect our cities, or to early Christians who gave their all to spread the Gospel.

Hopefully, God still has missionaries in some far-away lands taking His Gospel to the lost.  Hopefully, when this generation is called to account before the Judgment Seat of Christ, we will have a few unsung martyrs, a few who have put their lives on the line for the sake of Christ, instead of playing religion or politics.  Surely, there will be some who love across racial, cultural and economic barriers to take His gospel to a dying world.   Yes, hopefully there will be a few!

Surely, it is time to seek re-dedication to The Lord’s command by returning to christian prayer books.   And perhaps a wholesale christian book for resale could remind us about true Christian duty.
