Winter_Weather_NJ-05ca8    Doc Ad Versary:  Let us be clear about this: Unless it is an emergency, Stay Home!  Try to seal the doors and windows there from cold air. Keep the warm air heat on as much as possible.  And bundle up as much as possible even in doors.

Let Me Repeat!  This is serious weather.  It is not play on the sled, build snowmen weather.  As Bruce Gordon of the Minnesota Department of Public Safety told USA Today: “It gets cold in Minnesota, but we are talking about historic cold in the coming days.”

This is ‘stay indoors and stay warm’ weather.  Streets and freeways are ice.  As USA Today adds:  “Sunday through Tuesday, a cold air mass from the north will chill two-thirds of the U.S., leaving parts of the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast with single-digit highs and cities such as Chicago and Minneapolis with temperatures of 20 to 30 degrees below zero.

“That’s before factoring in the wind chill, which is expected to make sections of the north-central states feel as chilly as 50 to 60 degrees below zero.” Records of low  temperatures in cities around the country are now broken.

Wendy Weathersbee:  Most important:  Let us say it again. Stay Home! Do Not Drive.  Keep all types of emergency aids in the car, i.e.:  battery chargers, flat tire inflator, portable heaters, extra blankets, extra bottles of water, emergency food stuffs, fully-charged cell phone, cell-phone charger, extra warm clothing in case you are stuck outside for long periods, as in a traffic jam, etc.

Have a good spare tire, and a car jack.  See what we mean?  Best to stay home! As it gets warmer this week, if you don’t have those things, purchase them then.  Also get hand and foot warmers. This vicious cold weather is coming back!

Doc Ad Versary:  Why do we sound hysterical?  It’s because extreme freezing temperatures can greatly harm your Frostbite Hands 1body.  As Dr. Steven Doerr from Medicine.net writes:  “People who become stranded outdoors can also become victims of frostbite. The areas of the body affected by frostbite feel cold and firm. Burning, tingling, stinging, or numbing sensations may be present.

“Clumsiness can result from impaired motor control. When the affected body part is rewarmed, a throbbing or burning pain may result. Cold weather-related injuries include chilblains, trench foot, frost nip, and frostbite.”

Wendy Weathersbee:  So when going outside even for a short while, dress in layers of clothing: protect your self from hypothermia, frostbite and other serious health problems.  And eat warm wholesome foods, such as hot soups, cooked vegetables, etc. Wear mittens and/or gloves based on warmth, not just fashion.

Have your city or county emergency number to call, in case of a power outage.  And keep dog walks brief; consider keeping that pet warmer with a coat. Also, please check on senior citizens and the handicapped.

Doc Ad Versary:  This is why Apostle Paul told his young assistant in wholesale Christian books:  “Do thy diligence to come before winter. . . (2 Timothy 4: 21)” and another assistant, “ . . . be diligent to come unto me to Nicopolis: for I have determined there to winter (Titus 3: 12).” Paul understood that winters are the time of year to stay put! He set that example for us.  So Stay Indoors!!
