I was recently struck by Luke 2: 36-38: “And there was one Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Aser: she was of a great age, and had lived with an husband seven years from her virginity; And she was a widow of about fourscore and four years, which departed not from the temple, but served God with fastings and prayers night and day. And she coming in that instant gave thanks likewise unto the Lord, and spake of him to all them that looked for redemption in Jerusalem.”
I noted that this woman served God with her prayers and fasting day and night for some 70 years. Hmmm. Do you wonder how such sacrifices serve God? You see beloved, usually when we think of prayer, it is to pray for something that we need or want. However, most believers seldom think about what God needs or what He wants. But this woman Anna served God by praying about what He needs and wants.
That is: Anna was an intercessor! And God needs intercessors on this earth today more than ever! He needs Christians doing the hard work of praying for others through His Spirit as He directs—praying more on behalf of others, even if it means more than just praying about themselves.
For some 70 years that widow held her nation up in prayer. She prayed especially for God’s House and the leaders of the temple. And as she was a prophetess, she undoubtedly prayed for other nations as well. Again, note again, God tells intercessors His secrets: thus Anna knew who Baby Jesus was and she was able to spread His Gospel when He was still an infant.
If the United States is to be saved from collapse, she must have Anna-type intercessors. Consider that Moses constantly stayed off God’s judgment against Israel by pleading that He did not destroy them because of their constant sinning and complaining (Exodus 32: 31 – 33 & 34: 8 – 9). What was Moses doing? He was trying spiritually to steer the people away from sin and put them under the covering of God’s protection. If he had not succeeded, the foundation of Old Testament worship could not have taken place.
Please remember what our Precious LORD Jesus said to Ezekiel: “And I sought for a man among them, that should make up the hedge, and stand in the gap before me for the land, that I should not destroy it: but I found none. Therefore have I poured out mine indignation upon them; I have consumed them with the fire of my wrath: their own way have I recompensed upon their heads, saith the Lord GOD.” Without intercessors, only God’s judgment awaits!(31-32)”
The situation in our country is no different today. In this, the 21st and last century of man’s rule on earth, intercessors like Anna, Moses and The LORD Jesus are needed more than ever because Satan knows his time is almost up. Consider what Apostle John writes in our wholesale Christian Bibles: “And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in wickedness (1 John 5: 19).”
