Hello Dr. Butterman? Can you please get over here quickly. And please bring Rev. Repriestly with you too. I simply don’t have the heart to write this blog alone. A baby rhino, now nursed in a shelter, as he cries for his mother that was slaughtered by poachers for her horns, even as this baby watched.
All rhinos and elephants will be extinct in a few year because of human encroachment and poaching. The kids are either whaling or sad. What can we do?
The kids scream hysterically over these pics about a baby rhino on the internet.
The poor tot can’t sleep well, probably because he sees visions of killers coming after his mom and fears they will come after him too. Sadie Whitelocks of mailonline.com says the orphaned baby rhino can only rest when some from the Hoedspruit Endangered Species Center (HESC) in West Africa is beside him.
When the Center found the baby he was “crying inconsolably” for his mom. He is somewhat comforted now by a tame sheep named Skaap which serves as surrogate mom, and staff members who feed him (now nicknamed Gertjie) every three hours and sleep with him as well. Hoedspruit asks for donations to keep the babe’s milk stock up as he drinks gallons each day (http://hesc.co.za hesc_adoptions/adoptions_.php.)
In her article, Whitelock also reveals: “During 2013, 1,004 rhinos were poached in South Africa alone for their horns according to savetherhino.org, which is the equivalent of nearly three per day. At the current rate of killing, it’s predicted the species could be extinct in the wild by 2026.” And most horns go to China!
And then there’s Terrence McCoy’s Washington Post article, ‘The Slaughter of Kenya’s Biggest Elephant’ and the Decimation of an Entire Species.’ Affectionately named Satao, this beautiful mammoth-size beast was shot and killed with poisoned arrows last month.
McCoy quotes film maker Mark Deeble, one of the last friendlies to see Satao: “I think the old bull knows that poachers want his tusks. And I hate that he knows. More than anything, I hate the thought that poachers are now closing in on one of the world’s most iconic elephants.”
Richard Moller of Tsavo Trust, who found Satao’s body inside a swamp, says: “It was the hardest report that I have ever written. I couldn’t see past a wall of tears.” And right now, Dr. Butterman, I can’t either. All of Kenya is mourning.
This week, “United Nations Environment Program says: “More than 20,000 African elephants were poached across the continent in 2013 according to a report by the Secretariat of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES). Large-scale ivory seizures are indicative of transnational organized crime being involved in the illicit ivory trade.”
“Africa’s elephants continue to face an immediate threat to their survival from high-levels of poaching for their ivory and with over 20,000 elephants illegally killed last year the situation remains dire,” says John Scanlon of CITES.
Please ask Rev. Repriestly to pray God’s special early judgment upon those who slaughtered Gertjie’s mother and the king elephant Satao, and to pray––as we are instructed in wholesale Christian Bibles––for park police who dedicate their lives to protect these precious animals, and to give officials new ideas as to how to stop this carnage. I stand on God’s Word in Matthew 7: 7: “Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.”
Government officials refuse to admit it, but deadly emissions from Japan’s Fukushima nuclear disaster now sicken and kill that nation’s children. Moreover, rates of illnesses increase daily including thyroid cancer, continuing nose bleeds, endless asthma coughing, etc. Some teens and elderly mysteriously die.
Reuters reports: “The Tenth Report of the Fukushima Prefecture Health Management Survey . . . with data up to January 21, 2013, revealed that 44.2 percent of 94,975 children sampled had thyroid ultrasound abnormalities. The number of abnormalities has also been increasing over time as well . . .”
Harvey Wasserman of ecowatch.com writes : “Some 39 months after the multiple explosions at Fukushima, thyroid cancer rates among nearby children have skyrocketed to more than forty times (40x) normal.
“More than 48 percent of some 375,000 young people—nearly 200,000 kids—tested by the Fukushima Medical University near the smoldering reactors now suffer from pre-cancerous thyroid abnormalities . . . The rate is accelerating.”
Dr. Shigeru Mita from the Mita Clinic in Tokyo warns in well.com that increases in rare diseases means children and adults must move farther away from radiation: “It all began in the summer of 2011 just a few months after the Fukushima disaster, when higher than normal numbers of children with unusual symptoms began to flood his office.
“Bloodshot eyes, dark circles under the eyes and sinusitis were some of the more common symptoms, as well as persistent asthma symptoms that would carry on for long periods of time, something that was not the norm prior to the disaster.” He adds: “the average neutrophil count (the most abundant type of white blood cell) has declined considerably in children between the ages of six and 12.”
So Mita is advising his patients to move away from affected areas, considering that: “An increasing number of adult patients are also developing strange symptoms like extended bouts of asthma that are not responding to common treatment protocols. There has also been a considerable uptick in the number of deaths from these symptoms, especially among the elderly.
“The medication doesn’t seem to work . . . We also see more patients with diseases that had been rare before, such as polymyalgia rheumatica…. Before Fukushima, we had one or less patient per year. Now, we treat more than 10 patients at the same time.”
Yukiko Kameya, Fukushima nuclear refugee, told Reuters “Government officials ignore all the problems we’re having. There are many young people between 15 and 19 in Fukushima who are in high school who have died suddenly. . . and there are 59 children with thyroid cancer, they’ll never recognize it as being caused by the radiation.”
Yet Wasserman writes: “The nuclear industry and its apologists continue to deny this public health tragedy. Some have actually asserted that “not one person” has been affected by Fukushima’s massive radiation releases, which for some isotopes exceed Hiroshima by a factor of nearly 30.”
Japan is a perfect example of why Christians must pray for God and His Son to return to rule earth entirely. TEPCO, owner the leaking plant, cannot clean up its mess, and national rulers refuse to run it. Thus, as wholesale Christian t-shirts beg: “Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus (Revelation 22: 20).”
Proving economics––like other sciences––is not always exact, the Center for Economic Policy Research (CEPR), a group of 800 top economists, researching the European Union as a whole, says the EU is still in recession. Maybe!
In fact, several economic reporters insist politicians planted “false” media stories––i.e. “whatever it takes” to solve EU’s fiscal problems”––to give impressions that hard times in Europe were over.
This media blitz took the world’s attention away from dire conditions in Greece; collapsing banks in Spain; high food costs in Hungary, Poland, etc.; very high youth unemployment in all EU nations, etc.
Yet, as Wolf Richter writes this week in ‘It’s Official: Despite Media Hype, Eurozone Still In Recession,’ “[CEPR] just released a report . . . that supports what corporate earnings have been clamoring about for a while: the eurozone recession that started in the fourth quarter of 2011 still isn’t over.”
Even more conservative columnist, Neil Irwin, writes in ‘Europe May Be in a Recession (Still),’ “Is the European economy expanding, or is it in recession? Turns out, even the people whose job it is to decide aren’t sure.
“And their reasoning shows why the economic situation seems so perilous in Europe, even though its economy isn’t clearly shrinking.” He says CEPR fears that “policy makers may not be sufficiently concerned about the state of the economy.”
Richter explains CEPR’s thinking mirrors other facts: “ . . . in 2012, the entire debt-crisis fiasco was solved with a few elegant words – ECB President Mario Draghi’s “whatever it takes”––backed by the ECB’s printing press. Markets loved it. Even beaten-down, haircut––decorated Greek debt soared.”
The report argues that EU’s first recession ended in the first quarter of 2009, and economic activity in the group of nations soared through the fall of 2011 with 4% growth, but that was still below growth before 2009.
Last fall the CEPR hinted: “ . . . while it is possible that the recession ended, neither the length nor the strength of the recovery is sufficient, as of 9 October 2013, to declare that the euro area has come out of recession.”
Finally this week it states emphatically (sort of) “ . . . the euro area may be experiencing since early 2013 a prolonged pause in the recession that started after 2011Q3.” Thus, despite all the media hype, Europe is in a three year recession.
As Richter says, “This was unwelcome news to Eurocrats and the crisis solvers of the eurozone. But it was not news to the unemployed in France, Spain, Greece, Portugal, and many other countries.”
Speaking of which, isn’t this the same ‘political-economy-is-ok’ game going on in the United States where unemployment numbers do not consider long-term unemployed falling off the system, where roads and bridges sag in non-repair, where mountains of rotting houses and boarded factories blare in most cities, etc.?
Prolonged recessions lead to economic depressions and these always lead to war! As wholesale Christian Bibles declare, politicians must tell their people the truth whether those people want to hear it or not: “For the leaders of this people cause them to err; and they that are led of them are destroyed Isaiah 9: 16).”
Whatever happened to the days when vaccination for measles was mandatory before any child could enroll in school? Unless those days return, this nation’s children are increasingly endangered by a growing measles epidemic.
In ‘Measles Cases at Highest Level in Nearly 20 Years,’ CDC reports CNN’s Trisha Henry discusses this year’s record breaking number of measles victims: “More people have been infected with measles in the United States during the first four months of this year than have been infected in the first four months of the past 18 years, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
“The CDC says many of the California cases are a result of people visiting the Philippines, which is experiencing a very large measles outbreak; at least 20,000 confirmed and suspected cases have been reported in the Asian nation.”
Health Day reporter, Amy Norton, explains how this outbreak could have began: “An unvaccinated person travels abroad, brings measles back and infects vulnerable people––including children who are unprotected because their parents chose not to vaccinate them.” That’s this week’s conclusion in ‘Pediatrics’ Journal.
“ . . . an unvaccinated 2-year-old was taken to Kenya, where he contracted the measles virus. After returning to the United States, the child developed a fever, cough and vomiting. However, before measles was diagnosed, he passed the virus on to three children in a drop-in child care center and another household member.
“Nine of the children ultimately infected were old enough to have received the measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccine but had not. . . . the child’s parents feared the MMR vaccine could cause autism, . . . many studies since have found no connection between the vaccine and autism.”
Vincent Iannelli, M.D. writes: “So far, there have already been at least 402 confirmed cases of measles in the U.S. in 2014 (the most in 18 years). At least 314 cases of measles in Ohio since March 22.” McClatchy News adds:
“In Ohio alone, 138 cases have been linked to Amish communities where several members had traveled to the Philippines . . . Fifteen outbreaks, involving three or more related cases, have occurred in places like New York City and in California, where six outbreaks were reported in six counties. Forty-three people have been hospitalized nationally, but no deaths have yet been reported.”
Mumps is the other record-breaking outbreak of disease rampaging among children this year. As the dailybeast.com asks: “This week, New Jersey joined New York and Ohio as the third U.S. location to have a mumps outbreak this year—and it probably won’t be the last. Is it time for mandatory vaccines?”
This nation must protect its children by making vaccinations mandatory. Because of their unproven objections, a few parents should not be free to make other children sick. As plus-size Christian t-shirts insists: “In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother (1 John 3: 10).”
How long will the pride of a nation’s leaders allow them to lie to their people and the rest of the world? Instead of admitting that they don’t know how to stop radiation leaks from the damaged Fukushima Nuclear Plant, now the Tokyo Electric Company (TEPCO) dumps radiated water into the Pacific Ocean––again––to poison the rest of the world––again!
TEPCO also claims a giant ice wall is under construction to stop more contaminated water from continually leaking nuclear poison into world’s seas. But then few believe this zany plan will work either, or even believe such a plan exists.
But wait, another prevarication: New York Times reporter, Martin Fackler, reveals that instead of obeying orders to slightly retreat from the leak, TEPCO workers deserted their posts in panic:
“At the most dire moment of the Fukushima nuclear crisis three years ago, hundreds of panicked employees abandoned the damaged plant despite being ordered to remain on hand for last-ditch efforts to regain control of its runaway reactors, according to a previously undisclosed record of the accident that was reported Tuesday by a major Japanese newspaper.”
Japanese officials had suppressed the testimony of Masao Yoshida, deceased hero and former Fukushima manager who actually testified: “ . . . that 650 workers and even midlevel managers fled to another nearby nuclear plant, leaving him and 68 other employees behind to try to contain a possible fuel-core meltdown at a reactor whose building had just exploded.”
Instead TEPO testified (and the Japanese government claimed to verify) they had “evacuated all but a small number of highly dedicated workers, who risked their lives to prevent the nuclear crisis from worsening.”
Such terse carefully crafted language to obfuscate the truth that “ . . . employees began commandeering Tepco buses and using their own cars to flee to the other nuclear plant . . . about 90 percent of the plant’s workers left.” So if the workers actually feared radiation they built, how should the rest of the world feel?
AFP News reports that this week, Japan started freezing soil under leaking water plants. “The wall is intended to block groundwater from nearby hillsides that has been flowing under the plant and mixing with polluted water already there.
“The government-funded scheme will see 1,550 pipes laid deep in the soil through which refrigerant will be piped to create the 0.9-mile frozen wall that will stem the inflow of groundwater.” See, they called it a scheme, not me!
“Coping with the huge––and growing––amount of water at the tsunami-damaged plant is proving to be one of the biggest challenges for TEPCO, as it tries to clean up the mess after the worst nuclear disaster in a generation, in which three reactors went into meltdown. . . some settlements may have to be abandoned because of high levels of radiation.” What settlements? Who still lives near there?
I have used John 8:32 on wholesale Christian t-shirts about the truth freeing people so often, that Dr. Jael won’t let me use it again. So how about this one: “But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God (John 3: 21).” OK Japanese leaders time to step up!!
‘The World Is Too Much With Us’ 19th century poet William Wordsworth pines about man’s disconnection from nature. But his romantic notion as to how life should be would explode to know that nations today are so connected that a few deaths in one country can trigger hundreds of deaths thousands of miles away.
Such closeness means that nations which still employ camels for work and transportation, can affect the health of nations for which camels are confined for viewing at zoos. A major problem is that sovereign governments do not want other nations, or international groups, telling them what to do.
For instance, Rob Garver of The Financial Times explains: “People who study infectious diseases have long been calling for better communication among governments around the world and better monitoring of the spread of diseases within individual countries. This week, the world got another example of what they are so worried about.”
Recently, Saudi Arabia finally admitted that it had seriously under-reported its MERS cases by more than 100 since January of 2013. “The total rose to 688 from 575. More worrisome is that the mortality rate jumped to over 40 percent, even while the outcome for more than 50 patients is still unknown,” Garver adds.
Kate Kelland also reveals: “At the heart of the outbreak, Saudi Arabia has been criticized for its handling of MERS, which public health experts say could have been under control by now if officials and scientists there had collaborated more on studies into how the virus operates and where it is coming from.
“In response, the Saudi health ministry says it has put in place new measures for better data gathering, reporting and transparency, including standardization of testing and improved guidelines for labeling and storing samples.”
Chandan Das of breathecast.com adds: “the outbreak of MERS and number of deaths due to the contagion would have been much lower, provided the Saudi officials sought help from other countries in dealing with the crisis.” Because of such poor communications, the Saudis fired their Deputy Health Minister.
Kelland also writes that the World Health Organization (WHO) accused Abu Dhabi, capital of United Arab Emirates (UAE), of the same neglect: “The recent upsurge of cases in Abu Dhabi appears to have been caused by a combination of factors, including a breach in infection prevention and control measures in health care settings, active surveillance and increase in community acquired cases.” Such criticism leveled at one of the region’s wealthiest countries!
Another important update from the New England Journal of Medicine: MERS definitely comes from human interaction with camels. “Dr. Tariq Madani of King Abdulaziz University and his team write: “Nasal swabs collected from the patient and from one of his nine camels were positive for MERS. Further tests showed the virus had been circulating in the camels before the man got infected.”
Yes Wordsworth would be shocked to know that sick camels in a semi-undeveloped country can collide with and kill victims in a far extended post-modern world. And he would probably conclude that no one then is truly safe.
These are the reasons that, after anti-Christ’s attempts to violently unify the world, The LORD Jesus Christ will come with His glorified Christian army to rule over mankind in loving strictness. As wholesale Christian T-Shirts cry: “For so hath The Lord commanded us, saying, I have set thee to be a light of the Gentiles, that thou shouldest be for salvation unto the ends of the earth (Acts 13: 47).”
Some politicians deny it, spectacular media players ignore it, as do all people wearing their heads in the sands, but like it or not, human beings are pushing Mother Earth towards the Sixth and last Great Mass Extinction.
Of course, Nature has given all sorts of warnings. It is well known that popular animals––i.e. Sumatran tigers, pandas, bees, birds, butterflies, frogs, golden lion tamarin, white tip sharks, Buff-tufted-ear tamarin, and ‘gazillios’ of plant species––are rapidly and forever disappearing off the face of the earth.
Moreover studies prove that man’s continuing action in: 1) Theft of animal habitat areas for agriculture, deforestation and real estate development (usually leaving even remaining habitations severely damaged); 2) Mass industrialization resulting in Global Warming; 3) Ceaseless pollution of air and water;
4) Introduction of alien invasive species into settled animal habitats (for example, giant pythons now slithering through Florida’s nature-filled everglades); 5) Animal poaching (i.e. elephants for their ivory tusks); 6) Overfishing to keep restaurant chains in business, etc.; and 7) Spreading diseases inter-changeably.
‘Science’ journal just published a study predicting that earth is headed for the Sixth Mass Extinction, and that man is the major cause. Duke University’s Stuart Pimm, lead author of the study, tells Associate Press: “We are on the verge of the Sixth Extinction. Whether we avoid it or not will depend on our actions.”
As Zoe Schlanger argues in Newsweek: “ . . . plant and animal species are now going extinct at least 1,000 times faster than they did prior to humanity’s arrival. That means that species are disappearing 10 times more rapidly than biologists believed before this study.
“This study follows numerous recent reports that document the rapid loss of whole groups of plants and animals. Last year, a U.S. government study found that amphibians in the U.S. are dying off so quickly that they could disappear from half of their habitats within the next two decades. Warming oceans and acidification mean coral reefs may face extinction within the century, and in 2006, a study concluded that saltwater fish will be entirely extinct by 2048.”
In his article for newscientist.com, Anil Ananthaswamy points to studies about the Sixth Extinction limited to events in just one country: “Butterflies in Britain are going extinct at an even greater rate than birds, according to the most comprehensive study ever of butterflies, birds, and plants.”
He reports that 20,000 volunteers in England, Wales and Scotland turned over 15 million records of species to scientists at the Natural Environment Research Council Centre for Ecology and Hydrology. “The researchers found that populations of 71 percent of the butterfly species have decreased over the last 20 years, compared to 56 percent for birds and 28 percent for plants.”
Undoubtedly, skeptics point out that total species annihilation may take 200 or more years, but they won’t admit that each new scientific study shows that the rate of such species declines increasingly accelerates.
This blog often illustrates with an urgently important verse in the Book of Revelation: “And the nations were angry, and Thy wrath is come, and the time of the dead, that they should be judged, and that Thou shouldest give reward unto Thy servants the prophets, and to the saints, and them that fear Thy Name, small and great; and shouldest destroy them which destroy the earth (11: 18).” Believe this: God’s judgment will come long before He allows man to wholly destroy His earth.
Americans long accepted perspectives of: 1) First World medically-cleansed societies; 2) Excessively viral environments as Third World problems; and 3) Illusions of rare diseases as ‘new.’ But results of Global Warming, smarter germs, and ‘scientific diggings for the dead’ unveil truths about resurrected ancient illnesses, and increasingly dispel myths about current diseases.
Highly successful medical professions, well-researched and funded drug industries, and firm federal governmental support seem to insure healthier futures for American people. But militantly resistant viruses weaken those protectors.
Around the world, floods from Global Warming deliver diseases to formerly healthy nations. Zelijko Paradzik shows in ‘Similarities of Survival: Experiencing the Floods in Bosnia’ how Global Warming endangers a nation’s health:
“All of us were refugees within hours––thousands of people now homeless, sick and socially endangered. . . the Posavina region is an area of rivers, animals and forest, there is a great risk that deadly diseases could reach epidemic proportions, given the smothered animals, insects and high temperatures.”
Kara Rogers posits in ‘The Return of Ancient Viruses: Freed from Glaciers in a Warming World’: “Viruses are paragons of . . . persistence made indefinite by the ability to lie dormant for many years and in extreme environments.
“As temperatures rise, mosquitoes and other animal carriers of infectious diseases will expand their populations into areas that were once too cool to support [them]. This incites the spread of tropical diseases such as yellow fever, Ebola, and dengue . . . environmental ice can serve as a reservoir for ancient and potentially infectious agents but also that viruses from the past may be released periodically from glaciers as they melt and are eroded over time.”
In ‘6 Diseases Back from the Dead,’ popularmechanics.com writes: “Plague, TB, and measles seem like illnesses of the history books or infections beaten back by modern science. But once-vanquished diseases are now reemerging” globally.
The article concludes the Plague (Black Death), Leptospirosis, Typhoid, Tuberculosis, Dengue Fever, and Measles have been around for thousands of years, and are increasingly diagnosed as illnesses in the U.S.
In ‘Return of the Black Death: Ancient Bug Plagues Us Once Again,” Etan Smallman discloses: “Scientists warn a strain of plague that killed more than 100 million people could rise from the dead and strike again.
“Characterized by painful swellings, or buboes, in the lymph nodes, bubonic plague––or the Black Death––killed an estimated 25 million people in Europe during the Middle Ages. . . commonly transmitted by flea bites . . .”
Ann Widdecombe adds leprosy and rickets to the list in ‘Ancient Diseases Return.’ “More than 130 countries last year reported leprosy.”. . rickets have increased four-fold in 15 years––because children do not get enough vitamin D.
When America was a stronger Christian nation, she was healthier. But, in her weaker state of faith in God, the nation will find His protections waning. Christians must ask God to restore authentic ministries of healing to the Body of Christ. As wholesale Christian Bibles promise: “But the manifestation of The Spirit is given to every man to profit withal. . .to another the gifts of healing by The Same Spirit . . . (1 Corinthians 12:7 – 9).
Kid reporters around the country, and the world, continue to send in stories about declining bird populations. Human encroachment over bird nesting habitats, increasing attacks from pet cats, and Global Warming endanger some 1200 species.
endangeredspeciesinternational.org/birds6 says: “12% of all living bird species are considered endangered, threatened, or vulnerable. It is too late to save some of them, but others still have a chance if we act now.”
So the site advises people: “Take steps to halt global climate change. Support legislation that sets greenhouse gas reduction targets. Vote for legislators who pledge to fight global warming. Reduce your own carbon footprint.”
Bird lovers should avoid pesticides and chemical fertilizers as they also impact bird environments. Also, experts demand that people not keep wild birds in captivity. But most important they insist that cat owners keep those pets indoors.
Also birds6 says: “For your back yard, plant indigenous trees and flowers. The website of Plant Native provides information on native plants that favor wildlife including birds. If you have space in your back yard, consider creating a small pond. It will become an essential habitat for insects, amphibians, and birds.”
The ivory-billed woodpecker is now the most critically endangered bird in America. mnn.com says “Among the world’s largest woodpeckers, the 20-inch long bird used to flourish in the swampy forests of the South and lower Midwest. Due to habitat loss from development and heavy logging, the bird is now questionably extinct. The last confirmed sighting of the bird was in 1987, and since then, experts have been on a quest to find and restore the bird.”
According to theguardian.com/environment, after assessing 9,993 bird species, the Zoological Society of London and Yale University claim “the rare and striking giant ibis (Thaumatibis gigantea)––the world’s largest ibis weighing in at 4.2kg and reaching more than one metre in height––is the most endangered.” Only 230 pairs remain in the wild, and they concentrate in Cambodia.
In Australia the most endangered bird species is the Gouldian Finch. WWF-Australia says less than 2500 adults of this bird exist. However, indigenous rangers found juvenile populations living in nesting the birds created from monsoon vine thickets and unburnt woodland.
One of Australia’s WWF program managers, Alexander Watson, explains: “The reason for the decline of the species is unknown, although scientists speculate that altered fire regimes, cattle, and throat parasites have been contributing factors.
A large pet trade that was banned in the mid-1980s is also thought to have had a significant impact.” In all nations, land management is vital for bird survival.
Careful readers of used Christian Bibles know that birds are often used for: healing instruments (Leviticus 14), food (Deuteronomy 14: 11), and for symbols to illustrate man’s relationship with man and with God: “As the bird by wandering, as the swallow by flying, so the curse causeless shall not come (Proverbs 26: 2).”
But at the end of time, birds will get revenge on people for their destruction of the species: “And I saw an angel standing in the sun; and he cried with a loud voice, saying to all the fowls that fly in the midst of heaven, Come and gather yourselves together unto the supper of the great God; . . . And the remnant were slain with the sword of him that sat upon the horse, which sword proceeded out of his mouth: and all the fowls were filled with their flesh (Revelation 19: 17 – 21).”
Among many dangerously factors attacking patients and health practitioners recently, one of the the most dangerous is the arrival of fake drugs––now not only in poorer nations, but in First World nations as well.
Members of organized crime find the enterprise of counterfeit medicines makes far more money than ‘regular’ crimes, is easier to carry out, and usually garners far less jail time if caught! The problem: fake drugs kill people!
Roger Bate of the American Enterprise Institute estimates that these fake medicines kill at least 100,000 people a year, mostly in poorer countries. Usually drug smugglers of heroin or cocaine expect harsh sentences, but, as economist.com explains: “Some governments deem drug-counterfeiting a trivial offense, little more than a common irritant. After all, whose spam filter does not groan with ads for suspiciously cheap “Viagra?” But what about those without computers?
The international police force––Interpol––warns that ‘Pharmaceutical Crime’ involves the manufacture, trade and distribution of fake, stolen or illicit medicines and medical devices. It encompasses the counterfeiting and falsification of medical products, their packaging and associated documentation, as well as theft, fraud, illicit diversion, smuggling, trafficking, the illegal trade of medical products and the money laundering associated with it.”
That agency is particularly stressed by the rise of these illegal sales through internet purchases, and across state lines: “They operate across national borders in activities that include the import, export, manufacture and distribution of counterfeit and illicit medicines.”
In ‘The Painful Costs of Counterfeit Prescription Drugs,’ Paul Toscano explains: “The counterfeit pharmaceuticals industry is estimated to be a billion-dollar industry. . . The drugs often have incorrect amounts of active ingredients, if those ingredients are present at all, and are illegal in developed countries.”
For some years now, international police officials have known, and the World Health Organization certifies, that counterfeit prescription drugs can make up as much as 70% of drugs supplied to the poorest nations are fake!
The U. N. Office on Drugs and Crime says: “. . . the sale of fraudulent medicines from East Asia and the Pacific to South-East Asia and Africa alone amounts to some $5 billion per year.” Several years ago, it could be said that, because of better regulatory and marketing control in wealthier countries, illegal drug seepage was under one percent. But that is no longer the case.
According to Toscano, “FDA confirmed that counterfeit versions of legitimate drugs, including Ambien, Xanax, Lexapro, and Ativan, are available for Americans to purchase online. John Clark of Pfizer adds: “Counterfeiters used to operate chiefly in developing countries, says Mr Clark, but now his firm sees fakes coming from such rich and well-regulated places as Canada and Britain.”
As well-used Christian Bibles alert believers: “That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive (Ephesians 4: 14).” Of course the source of fake drugs is that killer, Satan, and true believers never cooperate with that fein.
