While national media focuses on whether or not China’s dreaded new Bird Flu H7N9 is coming to the U.S., several new and old health problems already threaten this country: TB, whooping cough, measles, other strains of flu, etc.
Supposedly in Los Angeles to investigate an outbreak of tuberculosis (TB) in the Skid Row, federal health officials have left that area without comment. Hayley Fox of blogdowntown.com writes:
“In February, health officials reported that 60 homeless people had been infected with this particular strain of TB since 2007—and 11 had died.” Anna Gorman and Andrew Blankstein of the Los Angeles Times add: “Sixty of the 78 cases were among homeless people who live on and around Skid Row.
“Health workers have identified about 4,650 people who were probably exposed and are trying to track them down for testing and treatment. Scientists have recently linked the outbreak to a tuberculosis strain that is unique to Los Angeles, with a few isolated cases outside the area.”
That urban Skid Rows have transitory street dwellers is a major problem. Homeless, they have poor hygiene, little access to health care and live in close proximity to others where an airborne disease, such as TB, is easily breathed in.
And while China grapples with H7N9, it should take a look at its own outbreak of spreading TB. According to The Extinction Protocol, “China faces a ‘serious epidemic’ of drug-resistant tuberculosis . . . In China, over one million new tuberculosis infections occur each year––a large chunk of the estimated nine million new cases worldwide annually.”
“The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has dispatched scientists to Los Angeles to help local health officials determine why the disease is spreading and how to stop it.” Meanwhile, even the CDC admit that cases of whooping cough (pertussis) are on the increase in the U.S.: “Compared to 2010, fewer pertussis cases were reported in 2011.
“As of January 10, 2013, 49 states and Washington, D.C. had increased pertussis cases or outbreaks compared with 2011. . . our surveillance system indicate that more than 41,000 cases of pertussis were reported to CDC during 2012. . . [and] 18 pertussis-related deaths during 2012 . . .”
CDC recommends that vaccines for whooping cough are boosted immediately––as they include effectiveness for tetanus and diphtheria as well. And they say the same for safeguards against rising rates of mumps and measles.
If the U.S. is to continue to be a comparatively healthy nation, its political leaders, health authorities and the general public should return to wholehearted devotion and obedience to The Most High God Who promises in wholesale Christian books: “Behold, I will bring it health and cure, and I will cure them, and will reveal unto them the abundance of peace and truth (Jeremiah 33:6).”
At last Cyprus settled its issues with European Union banks. But reaching this point: embarrassed EU leaders, riled Russia’s oligarchy, crashed world-wide gold markets, and left bank depositors everywhere angry and fearful.
Americans assaulted the Federal Reserve with questions. And the only hope they were given was the $ 100,000 FDIC insurance cap in U.S. banks. But if EU financiers could snatch Cyprus depositors money, then any nation’s banks could.
Who would have thought that half of such a tiny Mediterranean island nation could cause utter havoc around the world. Now it is suggested that the EU and others work on re-uniting Cyprus with the Turkish Republic half of the island.
Most economists agree that EU financial controllers, known as the troika––i.e. European Central Bank (ECB), International Monetary Fund (IMF) and European Commission––greatly embarrassed EU political and financial entities by its poor handling of the Cyprus crises. Some argue the troika set the Cyprus debacle in motion with its similar mishandling of financial shut-downs in Greece.
While the world waits for Turkey and the island’s Turks reply, Russia agreed to pay a share of the Cyprus bailout, since large deposits from wealthy Russians helped to exacerbate the problem. Even that didn’t help so Cyprus threaten to dump its gold reserves to raise funds for EU’s bill. Zowee, Woe. and Splat!!
On April 12th, Larry Elliott, Economics Editor for The Guardian, exclaimed:
“The price of gold fell to its lowest level in more than 18 months. . . amid fears that sales of the precious metal forced on Cyprus by its desperate financial plight would lead to wholesale dumping by hard-pressed countries in the coming months.”
Elliott quotes Milko Markov, investment analyst at SK Hart Management: “If Cyprus can break the gold market, then [there are] many reasons to be worried, with Slovenia, Hungary, Portugal, Spain and Italy in line.”
Cyprus’ Finance Ministry, Christos Patsalides, told Reuters News Service that Germany and the EU’s handling of Cyprus was the equivalent of shooting a pigeon with an atomic bomb. He described their “international lenders as ‘forces of occupation’ that cared nothing for human rights.”
“In the middle of the night . . . , officials managed to hastily stitch together a plan to rescue Cyprus . . . . As Quartz’s Simone Foxman points out, this is no way to run a currency union, which together makes up the world’s second-largest economy. And there are reasons to suspect this won’t be the last bungled bailout.”
Cyprus is part of Germany’s economic war to push EU countries in line with its agenda. When discussing His return to earth, Jesus uses these Christian messages: “And when ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars, be ye not troubled: for such things must needs be; but the end shall not be yet (Mark 13: 7).”
Owners of the fertilizer plant that blew up in Texas had eluded state and federal inspections for years. It did no good that federal and state regulators either knew nothing about the plant, or else only inspected certain aspects of it.
Local, state, and federal regulating failures led to meteoric explosive fireballs resulting in: 14 deaths––including 10 first responders––160 injuries, 80 destroyed homes, an apartment complex, a nursing home and a broken community.
The West Fertilizer Plant, owned by Adair Grain, Inc. was the mainstay of the small 2,800 population town in West, Texas. Hundreds fled to hospitals and emergency shelters. The putrid smell of smoke and toxic fumes fills the air.
In ‘West Fertilizer Plant’s Hazards Eluded Regulators For Nearly 30 Years,’ Chris Kirkham and Ben Hallman reveal incredible truths about lack of oversight: “Documents . . . indicate that the last time regulators performed a full safety inspection of the facility was nearly 28 years ago.
“The entity with primary authority to ensure workplace safety, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration last visited the plant in 1985.” The U.S. Department of Homeland Security did not even know the plant existed. Most observers compare the Plant’s blast to Timothy McVeigh’s Oklahoma City bombing which was 20 years ago this week. He used only two tons of ammonium nitrate to blow up the federal building. The Texas Department of State Health Services says this plant held some 270 tons of that same substance!
Rather than fulfilling obligations to make sure these dangerous chemicals were safe, the plant, its regulators and the community just assumed nothing would go wrong. After interviewing former regulators and community leaders, and reading documents going back 50 years, Kirkham and Hallman proved that point.
Current inspectors fall in line with such lethargy. As part of the hodgepodge of random safety inspections, in 2011 the U.S. Department of Transportation Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Commission leveled a small $ 5,200 fine against the owners for violations, including not drafting a safety plan when moving large canisters of pressurized anhydrous ammonia stored at the plant.
Five years earlier, while noting that the plant was within 3,000 feet of two schools, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality claimed that potential for an accident affecting the community “was low.”
According to China News’ edition of English.news.cn, Texas Governor Rick Perry told CBS News that he “remained comfortable with the level of state oversight following last week’s blast at the West Fertilizer plant,” and that his administration should not be held responsible for the destructive explosion.
This is absurd. It is a fantasy-land of fake Christianity as described in Bible prophecies. Fourteen people are dead. Nearly 200 injured. Businesses, homes, furnishings annihilated. And the man in charge says no one in his administration is accountable. Hmm. I thought governors were elected to protect the people. I must be naive!
Recent deadly attacks against Christians in the Middle East aptly illustrates current persecution against them in all parts of the world, especially in Muslim nations. In Syria––where Christians prefer the present Syrian leader because he protects them––yesterday rebels kidnapped two Orthodox Christian bishops.
Syrian state news agency SANA announced: “An armed terrorist group kidnapped Bishop Yohanna Ibrahim, head of the Syriac Orthodox Church [in Aleppo] and Bishop Boulos Yaziji, head of the Greek Orthodox Church [in Aleppo] while they were on humanitarian operations in the village of Kafr Dael.
Christian residents in Aleppo Province, where the kidnapping took place, told DW (Deutsche Welle) and AFP News Agencies: “Ibrahim had driven in his car to the Bab al-Hawa crossing at the Turkish border to pick up Yaziji. The border crossing is under rebel control.”
Abdulahad Steifo, Syriac member of the Syrian National Coalition (SNC)––a joint organization representing the various rebel groups––told Reuters News Agency that the bishops were taken on the road from Baba al-Hawa.
However, the Greek News Agency, ekathimerini.com, adds that Greek Foreign Minister Dimitris Avramopoulos “ has spoken with the interim chief of the Syrian opposition, George Sabra, who assured the Greek government that all steps will be taken to ensure the release of the clerics.
While all this is going on, to show their support for the kidnapping rebels, the European Union eased sanctions against Syria so they can purchase oil from the rebels who control that nation’s oil fields north and east of the capitol.
Also, British Foreign Minister William Hague told DW: “It is important for us to send a signal that we are open to helping in other ways, in all the ways possible, including ways adding to the finances” for the rebels.
Further, when ‘Friends of Syria’ met last weekend in Istanbul––according to DW, Associated Press, AFP and Reuters News Services––the United States “promised to double its nonlethal assistance to the opposition.”
Do American and European leaders know they support contending forces that are killing, persecuting and otherwise pushing Christians out of the Middle East––from places where the Christian Church has existed for two thousand years?
Are they aware that by helping to overthrow governments in Middle East, they clear the way for the rise of the anti-Christ, who will come from the revived regions ruled by Alexander the Great, namely Syria, Greece, Egypt and Turkey?
Do these warriors and supporters know what used Christian Bibles say about those who persecute God’s people: “ . . . he that toucheth you toucheth the apple of His eye (Zechariah 2: 8b).” They should take heed: a far greater war is coming!
Environmentalists around the world designated April 22 as Earth Day. For good public relations during Earth Day celebrations, businesses offer promotions, free products and other trinkets of earthly significance. But what does it all mean?
John McConnell, started the idea of Earth Day in 1969 at a United Nations Conference. U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson proclaimed April 22, 1970, as an environmental ‘teach-in’ date. Also in response to Earth Day concerns, the Environmental Protection Agency was founded that same year.
In 1990, Denis Hayes, who was National Earth Day Coordinator, took the organization international. Today it is celebrated in 192 countries every year, with many planned and sponsored events.
But when Earth Day is over, politicians, businesses and the general public go back to ‘business as usual’: destroying the planet with air and water pollution, over-fishing and polluting the oceans, flooding the earth and seas with non-recyclable garbage, etc. Earth Day must start to mean more to all nations.
Man’s failure to fully accept the significance of Earth Day is bringing the planet’s non-human animals to the edge of extinction. To save this planet, the American people must set an example for the world by letting politicians and business heads know: things must change.
Surely we can make this industrial age more earth-friendly. After the U.S. brings down its own levels of contributions to Climate Change, we can convince China––now the most polluting nation on earth––to join us. If not, the U.S. should greatly reduce its Asian imports.
In the same way, China can be encouraged to decrease its ‘need’ for elephant and rhino ivory in order to protect these species. The U.S. can also encourage that country to stop its industrial pollution of the planet’s air and water.
To celebrate the Earth today companies such as: Target Stores, Kellogg foods, Jo-Ann Fabrics and others are giving away reusable shopping bags; Caribou Coffee shops offers a free cup of coffee; and if you bring in five plastic bags to Disney, you will get a free Disney Tote bag in exchange, etc.
But while Americans pick up their free gifts, they may also ask each contributing company what it is doing to save the planet? What are the company’s environment, pollution and recycling policies? What does the enterprise know about such policies among their suppliers, including overseas enterprises?
Those who celebrate Earth Day can also add verses from online Bible lessons to their research on the planet’s future: “The earth is The LORD’S, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein. For He hath founded it upon the seas, and established it upon the floods (Psalm 24: 1- 2).” In other words, earth is not man’s possession to destroy!
Does it surprise anyone that the Food and Drug Administration has found some 30 compounding pharmacies still operating in unsafe, germ-tainted labs, and that Congress still has done nothing to improve FDA’s enforcement laws?
Errant compounding pharmacies are now found in 18 states. And several other drug-producing centers insist the FDA has no authority to inspect their operations. Andrew Pollack quotes Dr. Margaret A. Hamburg, FDA Commissioner in ‘Checks Find Unsafe Practices at Compounding Pharmacies:’
“It may surprise some people to know that, even in light of the recent tragic events, some of the firms we inspect still challenge our authority to conduct full inspections of their facilities.”
In ‘FDA Finds Widespread Safety Issues at Compounding Pharmacies,’ Lena H. Sun adds: “At a Florida company, Food and Drug Administration inspectors discovered “black particles of unknown origin” in seven vials of an injectable medicine. Reporters also mention rust, mold, poor air flow, etc.
“At other facilities, they found rust and mold in “clean rooms,” inadequate microbial testing and tears in gloves worn by technicians––lapses that raise the risk of possible lethal contamination.”
It is shameful that after more than 50 people died last year, and another 680 were made sick from injections of contaminated steroids, Congress has done nothing to clarify FDA’s jurisdiction over all compounding drug companies, the number of pharmacies mixing these drugs for inter-state distribution has increased.
The situation is still confused. After sporadic enactment of different court rulings across the country, Hamburg still insists that her authority over compounding pharmacies often conflicts with that of state boards of pharmacy––even when companies ship across state lines.
Howard Sklamberg, head of the Office of Compliance for FDA’s Drug Division explains: “Because they don’t register with us, we don’t know who they are, we don’t have a list of what products they produce.”
Not only has Congress failed to pass federal laws to strengthen FDA’s authority, it has not provided additional funding for additional FDA inspectors. Now, inspections are scheduled only if pharmacy or complainant report problems.
Yet as Sun writes, “Compounding pharmacies have been linked to deaths, [and] illnesses for years.” What will it take for Congress to take up its responsibilities in this and other urgent matters of this nation?
When these men and women first come to office, they lay hands on wholesale Christian Bibles and swear to uphold the laws of God and country. As 1 Chronicles 22: 12 reads . . . “Only the LORD give thee wisdom and understanding, and give thee charge that thou mayest keep the law of The LORD Thy God.” Negligence of public health and safety fails to keep that charge.
In the last few weeks, many of my fellow scholars have told us to stay alert: the earth––over-ladened with the greed of modern industrialization––and its surrounding planets and stars wait in this lull before a pending storm. Even the sun is unusually silent; its exploding spots ending, but for a brief season.
Ramez Naam of Scientific America warns the Earth cannot take much more of man’s destruction. In ‘The Limits of the Earth, Part 1: Problems,’ he posits: “The world is facing incredibly serious natural resource and environmental challenges: Climate change, fresh water depletion, ocean over-fishing, deforestation, air and water pollution, the struggle to feed a planet of billions. . . .
“One view of these looming threats is that we’ve exhausted planet’s resources. We’ve overshot the planet’s carrying capacity. Economic growth––the root problem driving our growing consumption and pollution––has to end.”
T.E.P. of Extinction Protocol says in ‘Planet Reeling from Spasm of Quakes: Seismic Stress Could be Building Towards an Event:’ “The planet is . . . reeling from a dense spectrum of moderate to light tremors which have struck along major tectonic plate boundaries . . . The latest spat of seismic activity across the globe has every indication of being a precursor to a major seismic stress release . . .”
In its webcast information on the ‘Solar Maximum!’ NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) seeks to explain the sun’s present silence as part of the Solar Cycle or Sunspot Cycle: “An irregular cycle, averaging about 11 years in length, during which the number of sunspots (and of their associated outbursts) rises and then drops again.”
This present drop of sun activity is also temporary. We can expect more sunspots, and even sun storms to hit at any time. Extinction Protocol often says, we know certain things are going to happen again. We just don’t know when.
As NASA explains: “Solar storms, generated above these sunspot groups blast huge quantities of . . . radiation into the solar system. . . . these storms can disrupt radio communications, compromise electrical power systems, damage sensitive satellite electronics, and degrade their orbits, and cause navigational equipment to make mistakes.
“The effects of these solar storms reach throughout our entire solar system impacting planets, moons, comets and asteroids, and even the boundaries on the solar system itself.” NASA believes earth is protected from such disruptions, or that human technology can warn of impending danger––but there is no guarantee.
Christians must strengthen their faith in God’s wisdom and knowledge, not depending solely on man’s perceptions. Christian prayer books explain: “Thine, O LORD, is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty: for all that is in the heaven and in the earth is Thine; Thine is the kingdom, O LORD, and Thou art exalted as Head Above All (1 Chronicles 29: 11).” Look to God and not man to see us through both the lull and the storm!
Americans must awaken to the reality that what has happened to the banking system in Cyprus can also happen here. In fact, the U.S. banking system almost collapsed in 2007, and the nation’s overall economy has still not recovered.
American history includes events related to those in Cyprus. sovereign-investor.com reveals such history in ‘Is America the Next Cyprus?: “During the Great Depression, over 9,000 banks failed––4,000 in 1933 alone––costing depositors more than $140 billion! That would be $2.45 trillion today.
“President Franklin Roosevelt’s first act as commander in chief was to declare a national “bank holiday––closing banks for a three-day cooling off period and setting limits to the amount depositors could withdraw.” Obvious similarities!
Since near disaster in 2007, the U.S. banking system is thriving. Certainly its stock market is. But our nation’s middle class is not doing nearly as well. As for Europe, its middle and lower classes are held down by no-growth austerity:
Two simultaneous events reveal failed banking systems within the European Union (EU): 1) EU’s attack on bank depositors in Cyprus; and 2) Investigative journalists opening millions of emails and bank records to expose thousands of off-shore bank accounts held by EU politicians and their super-rich supporters.
Obviously Europe’s middle classes are overloaded with taxes, while the elite oligarchy ‘hides’ their money in ‘off-shore’ banking havens. Using one middle-class family as an example, Liz Alderman points out that ‘Cypriot Middle Class Feels Betrayed by Europe Union:’
“What most pains him [30 year-old Charalambos Alexandrou, husband and father] and many others here, though, is the feeling that Cypriot solidarity with the European Union has been shattered by international finance officials willing to let their country’s 860,000 citizens suffer for the sins of a powerful few.
“And with losses of up to 60 percent being imposed on deposit accounts above €100,000 at the Bank of Cyprus, he said even many of his friends—not just Russian oligarchs—were losing big portions of savings they so diligently tucked away during the good years.”
Greatly embarrassed to find that the wealthy in their nations hide their riches in overseas havens to avoid paying taxes, European leaders say they are toughing laws against tax evaders. Considering the many off-shore banking havens where this nation’s wealthy hide their funds, it is time for American politicians to do the same. Otherwise, we may see the woes of Cyprus fall on our shoulders as well.
Christian messages point out that God’s judgment will soon turn such hoarded wealth against the covetous rich: “Go to now, ye rich men, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you. Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are motheaten. Your gold and silver is cankered; and the rust of them shall be a witness against you, and shall eat your flesh as it were fire. Ye have heaped treasure together for the last days (James 5: 1 – 3).”
We usually don’t cover stories that get full press exposure unless coverage would give readers warnings about future events. But Exxon’s outrageous behavior during its recent oil spill in Arkansas is one of those times that we sound warning!
First, Exxon has slammed the door shut on all outgoing information––including photography from flights overhead––and the Federal Aviation Administration threw a no-fly zone over the entire area of the oil flood.
But video-journalist Adam Randall managed to shoot a five-minute long record of this broken pipeline before the new ‘laws’ were passed. He posted it on You Tube on April 2, three days after the flood broke. Later such flights were approved only if an Exxon employee is appointed flight coordinator.
About further suppression of news, Rachel Colyer of Daily Kos reports: “On the ground, reporters are being kept at a great distance from the actual site. Those who have tried to gain further access have been escorted away by security, threatened with arrest, and told to leave by local law enforcement.”
Second, however, the major press usually avoids explicitly telling the public that oil from this broken pipeline’s is very similar to the thick tar sands oil for which Canadian refineries want to build pipelines in the U.S. to bring tar-oil here.
Americans have no idea just how much oil is spilling down main streets of this Arkansas suburb. EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) says some 7,000 barrels of the slime have pumped out, but Exxon insists 3,000 is more accurate.
Third, no matter how much oil is flowing from 70 year-old pipeline, its stench brings breathing problems to those residences still in the neighborhood. People remaining there––after 22 families in homes along the ruptured lines were evacuated to hotels––now complain of multiple illnesses coming from toxic air.
In ‘Arkansas Oil Spill Health Complaints Emerge In Mayflower,’ Lynne Peeples quotes April Lane, chair of a local school health and safety advisory group: “A lot of the released chemicals––benzene, hydrogen sulfide, toluene––are still extremely toxic, especially to children, the elderly and pregnant women, . . .” She says Exxon’s crude tests cannot detect harmful poisons in the air.
Fourth: Questions! Who gave Exxon the right to arrest American journalists in order to obstruct truth? When did Americans elect Exxon into office to decree acceptable levels of Americans’ health? And what does this suppression of truth have to do with the Keystone XL pipeline proposed to come down from Canada? Is the breaking pipe in Arkansas an omen for what Keystone would also bring?
Often called ‘the fourth estate,’ journalists have sworn duties as watchmen to warn nations of pending doom. As wholesale Christian Bibles insist, nations should ask journalists: “Watchman, what of the night? Watchman, what of the night? (Isaiah 21: 11)?” Journalists are among the few who can bring light to situations covered by man-made night!
At least four developments in the new H7N9 China Bird Flu scandal have surfaced this week: 1) While officials first trusted that China had reported these new flu deaths immediately, it now turns out that they greatly stalled reporting;
2) Chinese citizens are now vaccinating every bird they can find––ducks, hens, pigeons, etc.; 3) Chinese citizens definitely believe this flu is connected to recent cases of pigs floating in rivers, and other bird deaths; and 4) A Chinese colonel says that this flu is a U.S. sabotage plant.
According to the Associated Press, at last count this new flu strain has killed some nine persons with four new, for a total of 28 cases. But Chinese health officials and the World Health Organization (WHO) seem to have clamped down greatly on updating information.
In Delay in Reporting China’s Avian Flu Outbreak Is Questioned,’ Keith Bradsher reports in The New York Times: “Even the censored Chinese news media has begun cautiously questioning why the authorities did not say anything sooner about a disease that resulted in the first known human case in eastern China on Feb. 19, but was not announced to the public until March 31.”
His sources ask how can China’s Health Ministry now find three to five new human cases a day, and the disease not be transmitted from person to person. Also, they wonder why the government has not publicly identified flu carriers in farms.
Bill Gertz of The Washington Free Beacon says: “People’s Liberation Army Sr. Col. Dai Xu . . . A Chinese Air Force officer on Saturday accused the U.S. government of creating the new strain of bird flu now afflicting parts of China as a biological warfare attack.” But The U.S. State Department dismissed the claim.
In his article, ‘The American Flu: Chinese Colonel Says Latest Bird Flu Virus is U.S. Biological Weapon,’ Gertz also reveals: “Tens of thousands of [internet] users expressed doubts about the official Shanghai municipal government’s denial of any link between the dead pigs found floating last month in the region’s Huangpu River.
“The proximity to the initial outbreak in Shanghai and the river has led to speculation that the pig deaths may have been linked to the flu virus jumping from animals to humans. That speculation was fueled by reports that one of the victims of the flu was a pig butcher.”
As the world comes to these end times, it is clear that governments in both the United States and China may be telling the public less than the honest and full truth. But thankfully, wholesale Christian Bibles :
“For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.”
