Scientists Say Global Warming Causing Dangerous Dust Storms

Scientists predict that Global Warming will bring more horrendous dust storms, like the one that attacked Phoenix this week, across the globe––including similar storms in this country.  A major problem is that world-wide climate change has altered or destroyed protective vegetation that once kept dust and dirt in its place.  Increased temperatures kill protections from usual geographical vegetation.  Thus, burnt-out plant life disturbs soil stability, and leads to winds blowing dregs of filth that are usually kept dormant by plants and their roots.   Other scholars insist that––in addition to spreading dust, trash or dirt––these massive dust storms are transferring deadly diseases from one location where populations are more familiar with defenses against them, to another location which is not.
In an article published in this year’s Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, researchers Seth M. Munsona, Jayne Belnapa and Gregory S. Okinb posit:  “Projected increases in aridity throughout the southwestern United States due to anthropogenic climate change will likely cause reductions in perennial vegetation cover, which leaves soil surfaces exposed to erosion.”  Their scholarly report is most concerned about health implications of these increasing dust storms:
“Accelerated rates of dust emission from wind erosion have large implications for ecosystems and human well-being, yet there is poor understanding of the sources and magnitude of dust emission in a hotter and drier climate.”

The type of dust storm that hit the Phoenix area is usually seen in countries in Africa and the Middle East.  In addition to causing onsets of asthma and bronchitis, dust storms can spread other deadly diseases.   In a 2009 article for The the United Kingdom’s Observer, John Vidal wrote:  “Dust storms are blowing bacteria to all corners of the globe, with viruses that will attack the human body.”  His article, concentrating on the worst dust storm that Sydney, Australia, had seen in 70 years, insists: “Scientists who had thought diseases were mostly transmitted by people or animals now see dust clouds as possible transmitters of influenza, Sars and foot-and-mouth, and increasingly responsible for respiratory diseases.”

That dust storms can completely block the sun, turning day into night is mindful of the Book of Revelation when “ . . .  the third part of the sun was smitten, and the third part of the moon, and the third part of the stars; so as the third part of them was darkened, and the day shone not for a third part of it, and the night likewise” (8: 10).  Near the end of his reign the entire realm of the anti-Christ will be in total darkness (16: 8), similar to the way that Egypt was plunged into “thick darkness” as a sign of God’s judgment (Exodus 10: 21 – 23).  For the sake of human survival, world leaders must stop ignoring the results of Global Warming.  These results can be signs of man-made destructions or of God’s final judgment.
