Continuous Spread of New & Old Diseases: Plus 4th MERS in U.S.

Mers-containment    No new news today on 3rd and 4th MERS victims––hospital workers in the Florida facility treating the second carrier from Saudi Arabia. However, the CDC is posting advisories at 20 U.S. airports to warn travelers about the MERS virus.

That warning reads:  “If you are traveling to countries in or near the Arabian Peninsula, CDC recommends that you pay attention to your health during and after your trip. You should call a doctor right away if you develop fever and symptoms of lower respiratory illness, such as cough or shortness of breath, within 14 days after traveling from countries in or near the Arabian Peninsula.”

No. 5 on that ‘old’ list of 13 diseases now spreading around the world is about great increases of Hepatitis C in most countries. Raymond T. Chung and Thomas F. Baumert report in New England Journal of Medicine:

“Chronic Hepatitis C is a major cause of liver cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma worldwide. . . about 3% of the world’s population, are chronically infected with the Hepatitis C virus (HCV). [It] is often diagnosed at a late stage (in high-income countries) or seldom diagnosed at all (in low- or middle-income countries). . . reinfection remains possible even after successful curative therapy.”

Philippe Douste-Blazy of theguardian.com advises that many of the 180 people invested with this disease yearly now protest potential high costs of treatment medications. Many of the victims have experience with such protests.

New drugs, more effective than the present injection-tablet year-long treatments, can cost up to $ 84,000 for a hepatitis-c-risk-factors12-week dosage. Many Hepatitis C patients also have HIV.  HIV patients, now living longer because drug costs were lowered after protests, today face Hepatitis C a major cause of death among them.

Philippe Douste-Blazy writes:  “Manufacturers of new Hepatitis C medicines are likely to offer the poorest countries a less expensive version.  But pharmaceutical firms will not offer discounts to middle-income countries they regard as emerging markets, where about 75% of people with hepatitis C live.”

What these doctors and journalists infer politely is that Hepatitis C is often transmitted through sexual contact.  Because of such possible contamination, God advised Old Testament Jews, both male and female, to be celibate before marriage.

Moreover, He warned Jewish tribes not to inter-marry with other tribes, because witchcraft and idolatry always involve illicit sexual––even animalized (Hepatitis first discovered among chimpanzees in 1989)––activity.  That commandment was not lessened for New Testament believers.

In God’s kingdom, the social construction of reality is far different from the world’s. It includes spiritual, as well as physical, visions of realities (i.e. as seeing through a greater microscope): “Marriage is honorable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge (Hebrews 13: 4).”

For those to whom the second part of the verse may apply, remember that His kingdom also includes great realms of mercy, and those mercies come through the sacrifice of His Son, Who cries out loudly today: “Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest (Matthew 11: 28).”

Remember, there is no sin, no plague, no evil inventions that can attack with more power than that of the Blood of Jesus:  “And they overcame him by the Blood of The Lamb, and by the word of their testimony (Revelation 12: 11).” So, in addition to doctors, look to Jesus for His healing of your every need.
