Americans Must Confront Global Warming & The Diseases It Brings!

emerging-viruses-stephen-s-morse-paperback    In his interview with Action Bio Science, Dr. Stephen S. Morse hits on a major problem that Americans have with confronting increasing emergence and re-emergence of killer diseases:  too many Americans take their health, long life, and medical services for granted.

Thus, they generally ignore international news about spreading diseases such as SARS and its related viruses.  Morse says, however, such news is “a more serious global problem” than in the past because:

Today’s urban populations increase opportunities for “person-to-person” transmission of diseases; 2) People are more likely to contact animals that can pass on zoonotic diseases; 3) Public health services may not be able to deal with some infectious disease outbreaks.

Morse says:  “The reason they’re increasing is that there are more opportunities for these infections, which may have once have been localized or very limited, to spread to larger populations by various pathways.”

Also according to Dr. David Pimentel, professor of ecology and entomology at Cornell University’s College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, “Global Warming will create a favorable climate for disease-causing organisms and food-plant pests — but a much more challenging planet for humans struggling to survive.

“Right now the evidence of significant global climate change is minimal, but there are already noticeable increases in human diseases worldwide . . . Most of the increase in disease is due to numerous environmental factors — including infectious microbes, pollution by chemicals and biological wastes, and shortages of food and nutrients — and global warming will only make matters worse.”

Over-population is an additional factor endangering human lives.  Dr. Pimentel explained that currently infectious Overpopulation-worlddiseases are responsible for 37 percent of all deaths in the world, including environmental diseases from tobacco and wood pollutants. But, he says, population increases to 12 billion in the next 50 years will exacerbate the spread of disease.

Dr. Pimentel also argues that malnutrition is another cause of global deaths as more than three billion people are currently malnourished, and that increases their susceptibility to “infectious and environmental diseases, such as diarrhea and pollution-related illnesses.”

In his Christian messages, Apostle Peter speaks of people being willfully ignorant, meaning they don’t know because they don’t want to know, and he writes that such ignorance stems from ignoring the ultimate creative power of God.

This is His earth man is ruining with Global Warming:  “For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water (2 Peter 3: 5).”
