Greenland’s Melting Ice Cap: Soon Cannot Be Reversed

One of the major affects of Global Warming are melding polar ice caps.  This is particularly true of the Greenland Ice Cap, which is melting at a much faster rate than scientists previously expected.  But many of them now see that if this melting is not soon reversed, it will reach a point of no return.  What is known is that the melting Greenland Ice Cap:  1) Affects the pole gravitational pulls of the earth;  2) Will cause rising ocean levels to as much as 23 feet (7 meters); 3)  Brings increased flooding around the world; 4) Threatens to millions of people living in coastal regions, including the destruction of several smaller nations.
When reached by telephone after his testimony to Congress last summer, Geosciences Professor Richard Alley said:  “What is going on in the Arctic now is the biggest and fastest thing that nature has ever done. . . . Sometime in the next decade we may pass that tipping point which would put us [in] warmer than temperatures that Greenland can survive.” Reuters reports:  “Greenland’s ice sheet melted at a record rate in 2010, and this could be a major contributor to sea level rise in coming decades.”  Usual summer temperatures in Nuuk, Greenland’s capital are freezing, but last summer was the hottest since record keeping started in 1873.

Several smaller island states have already warned the world about what these warming climate changes mean to their survival.  Ambassador Stuart Beck of Palau told the United Nations recently that the 192-nation body would seen shrink in size because several island nations would soon be swallowed by rising sea levels caused by Global Warming.  Island countries soon expecting their own destruction include:  The Maldives, Timor Leste and the Pacific Small Island Developing States of Fiji, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Micronesia, Nauru, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu and Vanuatu.

How melting ice caps affect gravitational pulls will soon be discussed at this sight.  And there are files of blogs here  about increased flooding around the globe, to which the melting ice cap is contributing.  But questions arise:  1) Why do world leaders do little or nothing to stop Global Warming, including some who deny that it exists?  2) What will happen to the citizens of these and other smaller countries, soon to be engulfed by these rising waters? 3)  Will the United States do nothing to stop cities near or below water levels, such as New Orleans, New York, etc. from being likewise washed away? 4)  Are leaders asleep, in denial, or do they not care?

What thing is sure.  Bible prophecies avow that God will hold such leaders responsible:   “For the leaders of this people cause them to err; and they that are led of them are destroyed” (Isaiah 9: 16).  These stories about Greenland should have made front page headline news, but they didn’t.  Congress should have passed laws after hearing such testimony, but it didn’t.  God alone can judge.  Unfortunately for the do-nothings and naysayers allowing such destruction, He will do so very soon.
